Use the official version and beware of fake apps and scams

Recently, there have been cases involving fraudulent applications impersonating official apps such as Telegram and OKX. These fake applications may contain malicious code or Trojan programs.

Such malicious software may modify deposit or withdrawal addresses displayed within the application interface. If assets are transferred to altered addresses, this may result in asset loss.

Review of scam cases

Step 1: The user downloads fake Telegram, OKX, or other apps through search engines (Baidu, Google) or unofficial channels. These apps may contain Trojan viruses.

Step 2: If the user send their deposit or withdrawal addresses to others through fake software like Telegram, the addresses may be intercepted or tampered with by embedded Trojan viruses, resulting in asset loss.

How to identify fake official apps?

  • In the Apple App Store, fake OKX apps may be categorized as "Tools," "Productivity," "Lifestyle," etc., instead of Grow.

  • Special note for iOS users:

    • The official iOS version of the OKX App can only be downloaded with an Apple ID from regions outside Mainland China. When searching for “OKX” in the App Store, all results are fake apps (the official OKX has not been listed in the Mainland China region).

    • When search for the official OKX app in the App Store, the genuine app is developed by “OKX MALTA LTD”. Any other developer is a counterfeit. Please make sure to choose the official app to avoid unnecessary funds losses.

  • Android users, only through the official website (www.okx.com) Download from official app stores (such as Google Play) and avoid using third-party sources.

How to prevent it?

1. Download the app only through official channels. Do not download via search engines, unfamiliar links, or third-party app stores

  • Do not download applications like Telegram or OKX through unofficial channels to prevent malware infections. For example, if a customer downloads a fake Telegram app via a search engine (such as Baidu or Google), a trojan virus may be implanted, which can intercept or tamper with exchange deposit and withdrawal addresses, resulting in asset loss.

2. Strictly verify the address when depositing or withdrawing crypto

  • When depositing crypto, in addition to sending the copied address to the other party, you can also select Share Deposit Details or take a screenshot of the deposit page, send the image to the other party, and remind them to check that the address they paste or enter matches exactly with the one in the image to prevent possible tampering by Trojan viruses.

  • When withdrawing coins, after receiving the address sent by the other party, you can also ask them to send you a screenshot of the deposit page from the third-party platform as an image. Paste the address into the Withdrawal Address field and compare it with the address shown in the image to ensure they match exactly, preventing possible tampering by Trojan viruses.

Important notes

  • There is suspicious software on your phone. It is recommended to use your phone manager to scan for viruses and resolve the issue.

  • When using the OKX app, if there are security issues with your phone, OKX will send a 'Security Alert.' Please take this alert seriously, identify the cause of the 'Security Alert,' resolve the issue, and then proceed with your operations to protect the security of your assets.

  • If you notice any abnormalities, please immediately stop transactions and check the security of your account or device. If necessary, you can seek help from customer service.
